Modern World Dance
Learn a fusion of modern dance forms from across the globe!  Kids will have the chance to express their energy while also learning grace, composure and performance through choreographed dance with KidsArts! resident dance instructor.  Elements of hip-hop, latin, ballet, jazz, afro-caribbean and more!

Moving Books
When we draw on the page our illustrations usually stay put.  From simple cards to longer stories, pop-ups and flipbooks help ideas come alive!  In this class we will look at favorite pop up and flip books and attempt our own.  Creating these “moving books” requires imagination as well as focused work on paper “engineering.”  Simple techniques are easy to master, and infinite variations will keep our engineers busy as they make their own stories move.

Special Effects
No computers, no digital effects, everything by hand. Find out how theater techies made magic in ‘the old days’ – and, sometimes, still do! Participants learn to work together as they learn stagecraft secrets to amaze an audience. Our final live performance will hopefully amaze you! (Note: most people in this class won’t be seen during performance.)

KidsArts! Yearbook
In this Class we will put together a handmade Yearbook that chronicles the news and activities of Kids Arts.  We will observe KidsArts classes, teachers and of course kids to make a book to remember our experiences and memories.  We will use our drawing, photography and design skills to lay out our for-kids-by-kids yearbook.

Magical Green
Is a Community Gardening for Kids!
In this class, we’ll learn how to wake up our garden for the growing season!  In good weather, we’ll take a trip down to our community garden plot in Forest Hills, and we’ll till, plant, mulch, and fertilize.  We’ll learn how to use a cold frame to start growing early!  In rainy weather, we’ll stay on site and learn about seeds, plant seedlings, create a garden timeline, study our soil, and compost with worms.  Everyone will enjoy interacting with the magic of the earth!

Freedom Songs
In this class, we’ll study times of great change in U.S. history.  We’ll look at the struggles against slavery, for women’s right to vote, for labor rights, for peace, and for environmental justice.  We’ll re-live these times by learning the songs that expressed the spirits of these movements.  Kids will also refine their musical skills through rhythmic and melodic group exercises.  By the end of the class, each child will have their own hand-decorated copy of the KidsArts! Freedom Songs Songbook, and we will share our songs and knowledge with the KidsArts! community for Performance Week.
