Community Workshops

Join us outside JP KidsArts every Tuesday-Friday from 4:30-6:30 for Community Workshops for the whole family! Register ahead of time to ensure a spot or swing by on a whim and check out what we’re up to.

All workshops are $30 for first person + $10 additional per person.

Tuesdays w/ Noelle and Rubin: Custom Clothes

9/15 Stencils

In this workshop we will cut out shapes and designs to make stencils. We will spray fabric spray-paint through these stencils to make custom designs onto clothing and patches. Bring clothes that you want to customize!

9/22 Batiking

Batiking is a method of producing colored designs on textiles by dyeing them, having first applied wax to the parts to be left undyed. Come join us for a batiking workshop where we will create unique textile designs through learning a simple batik dying process.

9/29 and 11/3 Jewelry Making

Join us to make bracelets, necklaces, and earrings with friends!

10/6 and 11/10 Weaving

In this workshop we will learn an easy hand weaving technique with simple materials.

10/13 and 11/17 Screen Printing

Screen Printing is one of the most popular ways to put designs onto clothes. Bring some blank clothes and we will provide everything else! We will spread ink through silk screens to impart a custom design.

10/20 Tye Dye

Tie-Dying with KidsArts staff! We will have some big pieces to dye together as a group. Bring any blank cotton clothes, or any white fabric that you want to dye. We will create designs by folding and using rubber bands to tie!

10/27 Mask Making

In this spooky workshop we will be decorating our very own Halloween masks.

Wednesdays w/ Tim and Scott

9/16 and 11/4 Cardboard Village

Together we will build the city of our dreams out of cardboard. Do we get around by rollercoaster? Is there a football field sized pool for every home? Let’s dream big and make it happen!

9/23 Cigar Box Guitar Building

Artistry and craftiness collide in this wonderful workshop! Learn how to build your very own cigar box guitar, and bring it home with you. All materials provided.

9/30 Music Games

Have fun learning the basic elements of music (rhythm, dynamics, listening, etc.) by playing games specifically designed to improve your musical abilities! Provided instruments include electric guitars, basses, drums, xylophones and more!

10/7 Paper Airplane Fest

Now is your chance… the moment you have all been waiting for - the first annual JP Paper Airplane Festival! Build a massive flying machine of your design using paper, balloons, foam, and more. Get ready for the great flying competition - prizes and awards to be won - glory awaits you.

10/14 and 11/11Metal Sculptures

In this workshop we will be using wire, nuts, bolts, and found objects to create our own 3D metal sculptures.

10/21 Pumpkin Carving

Tis the season...pumpkin carving season that is! Don’t miss out on this time-honored tradition of carving faces into pumpkins. Will it be scary or funny? You decide!

10/28 Kite Making!

Using paper, sticks, and string, we will create and decorate our very own kites and fly them around in a great big parade.

11/18 Paper Rockets

Using a bike pump and a lot of creativity, we’ll launch our homemade paper rockets sky high!

9/17 Engineering: Zip Line!

Engineering Challenge: Zip-Line! With Sam and Kara
Calling all engineers! We need your help designing a way to transport a REAL EGG safely down a zip line!

9/24 KidsArts Game Show

Show us that you know your stuff and win big prizes! Trivia games that stretch your mind and agility challenges to flex your body!

10/1 Indigo Dye

We’ll learn a bit about the Japanese practice of Shibori tying and dye t-shirts and bandanas in a huge vat of indigo.

10/8 Engineering: Zip Line Again!

Engineering Challenge: Zip-Line! With Sam and Kara
Calling all engineers! We need your help designing a way to transport a REAL EGG safely down a zip line!

10/15 and 10/22 Paper Marbling

Using shaving cream and watercolors, we’ll show you how to make swirly colorful artworks on thick paper.

10/29 Engineering: Boat Making!

With an assortment of materials from empty bottles to wooden blocks to string and fabric, you will construct sea fortresses, float ideas together, and develop “kinship” with your team. We will test the boats through a series of challenges and see if they can carry the whole Harry Potter series!

11/5 Relay Race

In a mad dash around the church you will have to leap over lava, fly airplanes across oceans, find hidden treasures, and more. Fun and prizes for all!

11/12 Printmaking:

We’ll use soft foam to engrave our designs and then real printmaking tools like brayers and ink to make postcard size works of art.

11/19 Obstacle Course

Jump and dive around the church in our very own obstacle course! Can you avoid all the traps?

Fridays: KidsArts Rock Band & Paint Night for Adults

KidsArts Rock Band with Matt and Rubin

(9/18), (10/2), (10/16), (11/6), (11/20)

Come jam with us! We’ll have electric guitars, electric basses, drum sets, and other rock instruments for kids to explore and play. Each week we’ll improvise, write songs, and make a bunch of noise!

Paint Night + KidsArts Rock Band with Noelle and Rubin

(9/25), (10/9), (10/23), (11/3)

Calling all adults to come join us for a relaxed night of painting with friends. The workshop will begin with a short demo by our artist-as-teachers spotlighting a new painting technique at every meet-up. We will then work on our projects individually with the choice to paint from still-lives or from imagination with artists there to guide us along the way.

KidsArts Rock Band will meet on these weeks too!
