KidsArts Virtual Summer Program

This summer we’re offering two exciting ways to get creative and spend some quality time with us and each other!

A schedule of group workshops designed for kids to enjoy independently and projects for kids and families to complete together. Materials Provided!

Private and small group instruction with a member of the KidsArts staff. Materials Provided!

Signing up for a week of KidsArts Online grants your family unlimited access to our online workshops! Register for as many or as few activities as you’d like.

Along with our workshops, signing up for our Group Programming will give you access to morning check in and afternoon dance party activities each day! Programming begins on July 6th and runs through August 28th. Upon registering you will be sent a form to select your workshops.

Materials

With registration, enjoy a customized material gift bag for all your KidsArts material needs. Bags come complete with all the art supplies needed for the classes you register for.

We want to keep registration stress free. In doing so, we are happy to not only put supply bags together, but also include a printed version of each kid’s schedule along with any other information each kid may need for summer programming. 

We want to keep KidsArts summer accessible. For more valuable items such as musical instruments and yoga matts, we will have a rental station so kids can always have what they need to participate in the classes they registered for.

We want to keep KidsArts summer safe so we will be providing socially distanced pick-up options and we will disinfect, wear gloves, and face masks when handling materials. 

And lastly, we want to make KidsArts summer as fun and immersive as possible so keep an eye out for surprise goodies when your kid receives their gift bags!

Summer Workshops

Musical Languages w/ Raef - Musical languages? The language of music! Come make tiny films with us every week using music instead of words. [Monday, Wednesday-Friday, 11 AM]

Movie Making Magic w/ Lara - Movie Making Magic 
Lights, camera, action! We will create our own short videos and learn about every step of the process. From creating a story, to filming our movie, and even helping to edit our final product. Each week we will learn about and make a different kind of video including movies, music videos, animated cartoons, documentaries, and more! [Monday-Thursday, 1 PM]

Our Animated Friends w/ Rubin - Our Animated Friends 
In this class, we will work together to make animated skits! Everyone will help design the characters and the backdrop, and we will come up with a script for a short animated scene. Then whoever wants to will be a voice actor for the characters, completing the scene! [Monday-Wednesday, 2 PM]

Yoga & Folk Tales w/ Scott - Have fun learning new stretches and movements and sharing some of your favorites too! We will also be reading a new book together each week and playing games to create our own stories to share. [Monday-Wednesday, 10 AM]

Eco Art w/ Cai - Magic is real, you just have to get out there and find it! For this workshop we will be using organic found objects to create temporal eco art while strengthening our relationship with the more than human world. Class will start off with a short folk tale related to the day’s assignment and theme of the week. Activities will include collecting seeds from kitchen vegetables for seed keeping, origami, building elaborate fairy houses, mandalas, and more. [Monday, Thursday, 11 AM]

Rip-Glue Magic w/ Kara - We're going to be using fun papers with unique textures and colors, recycle old books and magazines, and make postcards that can be put in the mail to a friend. We'll be using some fun techniques with dice and game mechanics to make our artwork. [Monday, 2 PM]

Cut and Paste w/ Yesenia - In this class we will mix and match images from magazines, newspaper clippings, and anything you have around your home. We will create collages with pop ups, secret pockets, and playful materials! I invite you to get chatty while we cut and paste at our own pace. Bonus- if you feel confident in your computer skills we may even learn how to make digital collages using pixlr.com, a free online photo editor that is similar to photoshop! [Tuesday, 11 AM]

**JP Bio Blitz w/ Matt - Jamaica Plain is full of incredible wildlife! In this workshop, we will set out to observe and document all the wonderful plants and creatures that we share our neighborhood with. Using the free iNaturalist app, we’ll record and identify the plants and creatures we find, and share our findings with each other as well as with researchers and scientists that work to map and track our ecosystems! Each participant will also receive a wildlife journal to document their discoveries! [Tuesday, Friday, 11 AM]

**Play Reading for Early Readers w/ Kara and Raef - We're going to put on a play on zoom! We'll do a few rehearsals and then press record so we can share our play on our youtube channel! All plays will be for early readers and each student will get a custom script highlighted with their lines to follow along. [Tuesday, Thursday, 2 PM]

**Time Capsule w/ Cai - If you want to be a time traveler when you grow up, this class is for you! For this workshop we will be exploring mixed media to create our very own time capsule! We’ll be reflecting on our time in quarantine, and our vision for a better world. Activities will include collecting, archiving, creating artifacts, journaling, drawing, and painting. Participants will receive printed outlines for journaling. At the end of the summer we will bury the time capsules! [Wednesday, 11 AM]

**Assembly Square w/ Sam - I'll provide the pieces, or you will use recycled objects from around your house, and together we will assemble them into fun and functional projects, which you can decorate to make it your own unique creation! [Wednesday, 2 PM]

How do You Tube? w/ Noelle - Do you ever wonder how you tubers tube? This class is all about learning how to tube by collecting video content and making it come alive. Kids can bring in content they made outside of class, or we can make/find content during class. Together we will make short youtube videos. This class is not necessarily about the finished product. Rather, it is about learning together, collaborative journeys, and exploring video editing via adobe premiere. [Wednesday-Friday 10 AM]

Beat Machine w/ Rubin - Lets get together and make beats! We will mess around with different drum sounds and make our own personalized beats! We will also experiment with sampling sounds that we find in our house and arranging them into grooves. [Thursday-Friday 2 PM]

The Kindhearted Universe w/ Tony - The Kindhearted Universe is a drawing class. Together, the kids and I will make, learn, and talk about art that encourages nature. Kids who love to color and look at picture book illustrations will enjoy this class. [Thursday, 10 AM]

KidsArts gets the Scoop w/ Lara - What happened at KidsArts this week? Each Friday we will work together to create a multimedia remix full of stories and art about what went on at KidsArts! We will share stories of fun things we did, express our opinions, vote on polls, and keep everyone in the loop! [Friday, 1 PM]

**Cozy Cozy Crocheting w/ Tony - Cosy Cozy Crocheting is a handworking class. Handwork is work that is done by hand, like knitting, crocheting, sewing, and more. This summer, we're going to get comfortable and begin crocheting an autumn scarf for someone special to each of us. Anyone who wants to learn, including parents, caretakers, and siblings, is welcome. [Friday, 10 AM]

Just for Kids

For families in need of activities kids can do on their own, Just for Kids workshops offer ways for kids to connect with each other while participating in fun and creative games and activities. These activities are designed to be easy for kids to access and enjoy without the help of an adult.

Family Fun

Family Fun activities offer structured projects to help families get creative together. They are designed to engage both kids and adults and may take place both on the computer and in our community.

Our Online Programming is priced on a sliding scale based on income and the amount of workshops your family intends on participating in. If you can afford to pay more, please do to support those that cannot!

Tier 1 - $150 /week Tier 2 - $200 /week Tier 3 - $250 /week

Daily Schedule

9:00-10:00: Morning Check In 

Kids and Families are invited to check in each morning with KidsArts program leaders and join in a story time, group drawing, or group game. This time also serves as a space for us to check in about workshops, technical difficulties, materials, or anything else that kids and families want to talk about!

10:00-11:00: Workshop 1

Join us for an end of the day dance party! Bring your song requests and favorite dance moves!

*With registration kids and families are invited to participate in as much or as little of our daily schedule as suits their needs

A Deep Dive is a special one-on-one or small group lesson with a member of the KidsArts staff. KidsArts teachers are amazing artists, musicians, writers, and actors with a wide range of skills and expertise. Sign up for a deep dive lesson on your own or with a friend or two!
